Manual Therapy Technique Performed at Elite physiotherapy and Sports Injury Centre:
Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release consist of gentle hands on skin application of constant pressure. Over extended periods lasting 5 minutes or more, this allows the facial tissue to have increased range of motion (greater range of motion), leading to better fluid transport throughout the body (less swelling), less pain, and restoration of function.
Joint Mobilization
Passive movement of the joint by a healthcare professional to restore and/or relieve pain. Movements are graded on a scale of I–IV with grades I–II focusing on reducing pain and grades III–IV focusing on restoring joint motion.
Joint Manipulation
It is a high velocity low amplitude manual thrust technique when applied to an extremity (wrist/knee) or spinal joint that is beyond the patient's voluntary control. The purpose of manipulation is to immediately increase range of motion, reduce pain, and reduce acute muscle spasms.
Movement with Mobilization
A manual approach to improve joint movement restrictions, reduce pain with movement, and restore function. The health care provider uses a specially designed belt to provide a directed force to the joint while the patient is instructed to move the joint through its full range of motion.
Active Soft Tissue Release
A hands-on soft tissue technique that focuses on relieving tissue tension through the removal of adhesions resulting from muscle overuse. This technique consists of a pin and stretch with the active participation of the person being treated by the medical provider. This is repeated longitudinally from muscle origin to insertion until an increase in range of motion is observed.
Cross Friction Scar Mobilization
A manual technique directed at remodelling scar tissue after surgery, trauma, or injury. The intention is to return the soft tissue to a more normal position (elastic and flexible) to improve mobility and function. Direct hands-to-skin or an instrument to skin may be used at varying intensities and durations to break down the tissue.
